Research on the rise in bike reservations was done by iPrice, a website run by Meta-seach.
STARTOGEL , JAKARTA – In recent years, cycling has become a popular option to exercise, hobbies, or simply to pass the time when they’re bored. Bicycle reservations have increased by 50% since the start of the epidemic, according to research from the iPrice meta-search site, which was cited on Monday, 20/7.
Compared to 2019, the number of people riding bicycles in the capital region rose by 1000 percent during the first week of July 2020. The three primary bicycle models that are popular in Indonesia right now are folding bikes, mountain bikes, and kids’ bikes.
According to iPrice, the most sought-after bike is the folding bike. Between March 1 and June 21, 2020, there was a 900 percent rise in Google Trends search interest for folding bikes.
Additionally, mountain bikes ranked second, with a 680% rise in search interest between March 1 and June 21, 2020. Bicycles for children came in third, and searches for them have been rising since March 1.
But at just 142%, the gain was not particularly noteworthy. With a 300 percent rise in searches within the same time period, road bikes came in last.
The results of the search are consistent with market research showing that foldable bicycles are preferred by 60% of the present market, followed by mountain bikes or MTBs by 30%, with the remaining items including city bikes and kid-friendly bicycles. When car-free day (CFD) was implemented on June 21 for the first time since the PSBB, bicycle keyword searches surged the most.
It is projected that up to 18,813 visitors will be cycling on that particular day. On June 28, 2020, the following week, Indonesians began searching for bikes to get ready for CFDs.
Using Google Keyword Planner, iPrice conducted more research on the popularity of the term “folding bike”. According to the information gathered, there were only 90,500 searches for the term “folding bike” in early March 2020.
In April, when PSBB was first implemented in the majority of Indonesian provinces, the increase started at 165,000, an increase of 82%. Since April, search interest has not increased; it stabilised in May.
With a total of 673,000, the folding bike keyword search interest increased dramatically in June 2020, rising by up to 644 percent since March 2020. This is consistent with the growing amount of social media community updates. Meanwhile, West Java (19.4%), Central Java (17.7%), and Jakarta (16.7%) had the largest percentage of searches for the term “folding bike.”
